Oscar Vaurs is a French composer and sound artist whose work unfolds at the intersection of electroacoustic composition, performance, scenography, and philosophical inquiry. With a background that bridges contemporary dance, electroacoustic music, sound art, and research-driven artistic practice, his work explores the entanglements between human and non-human agencies, the dramaturgy of space, and the emergence of new forms of subjectivity within technologically mediated environments.
His pieces often combine multichannel sound systems, responsive installations, machine-learning agents, and collaborative dramaturgies to create performative situations where bodies, materials, algorithms, and environments co-compose the experience. Influenced by posthumanist thought, Deleuzian cartographies, and transdisciplinary creation, Oscar approaches each work as an ecology of relations rather than a linear narrative. Whether working with feedback networks, field recordings, instrumental gesture, AI-generated video, or blockchain-based structures, his focus remains consistent: to reveal the tensions, frictions, failures, and unexpected behaviours that arise when different forms of intelligence and matter enter into dialogue. His artistic language oscillates between precision and instability, embracing glitches, hallucinations, and accidents as creative catalysts.
This approach has led him to develop hybrid performance systems where space becomes an active agent, where instruments behave as living extensions, where dancers and digital processes influence one another in real time, and where sound operates not only as musical material but as a force capable of reshaping architectural perception.
After initially training in contemporary dance and later studying electroacoustic composition in France, he completed a Bachelor in Sound Arts at the Hochschule der Künste Bern and pursued further studies in Leipzig before returning to Bern for a Master in Composition. His works have been presented at the Darmstadt Summer Course (Open Space 2025), the Nicati Competition (2025), the PlayTime Festival, Alpentöne, Les Cinéphonies, À Suivre, Ecotones, and in research contexts such as the Sonic Architecture symposium of the GfM.
Across his projects, whether acousmatic, performative, algorithmic, or installation-based, Oscar develops an artistic practice deeply concerned with relational authorship, spatial dramaturgy, and the construction of shared affective territories. Grounded in collaboration, shaped by lived encounters, and informed by philosophical reflection, his work proposes new modes of listening and composition that embrace uncertainty, distributed agency, and the complex interdependence between humans, machines, and environments.
